Brazil: Rural Water Supply and Sanitation in Pernambuco
MACS do Brasil signed a one-year training contract with ProRural – a rural development project of the State Government of Pernambuco, sponsored by the World Bank. The improvement of rural water supply and sanitation is one of the key components of the project. The MACS do Brasil team will carry out training and awareness building measures in over 200 rural communities.
For MACS, this is the second contract in Pernambuco, following the elaboration of a study on alternative management and operating models for community based rural water supply and sanitation systems. The conclusions of this study are now being discussed among key stakeholders, aiming to define a statewide strategy.
Managing Director Thomas Schiller and Kassyo Rodrigues, the director of MACS do Brasil, assisted a World Bank Mission to the ProRural project, contributing to the ongoing strategy discussion.
