Brazil: Education and Training of Usergroups in the Framework of the Basic Sanitation Programme Ceará II & III

Since 1990, KfW has been involved in the improvement of water and sewage services in the state of Ceará under the framework of German-Brazilian financial cooperation. MACS and Fichtner Water and Transportation were contracted in 2009 with the provision of adequate water and wastewater services to improve quality of life in the participating communities. MACS developed the Sistema Integral de Saneamento Rural (SISAR) as a solution for rural water and sanitation services as a nonprofit organization based on an association of local user groups that are themselves responsible for the operation, maintenance and administration of the sub-systems composing the regional water supply systems as well as defining tariffs.
