MACS is the leader of the Consortium that will provide strengthening and consolidation services to SISARs and the SISAR Institute within the framework of the Águas do Sertão Program. SISAR (the Integrated Rural Sanitation System) is a community management and operating model for small communities in rural areas with shared responsibilities between communities and the SISARs (confederations of associations). The The first phase of the work - diagnosis - began in September 2024 and will end in February 2025. The focus of the diagnosis phase will be to conduct a survey of the popultion currently served by the SISARs as well as assess the current situation of each of the 8 involved SISARs.
Currently, one million people - 50% of the rural population of the state of Ceará, Brazil - benefit from treated water supply services delivered to their homes by SISAR.
