During the prestigious SILUBESA – Luso-Brazilian Symposium on Sanitary and Environmental Engineering
– held alternately in Brazil and Portugal every two years, promoted by ABES (Brazilian Association of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering) in partnership with APRH (Portuguese Association of Water Resources) and APESB (Portuguese Association of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering) –
Raul Alves, an engineer from MACS Brasil, presented the work "Maximizing Efficiency in Water Distribution in Rural Areas with Software: The Potential of WaterSmart Network Optimization." The study highlights the challenges of water distribution in rural areas, where limited infrastructure and geographical dispersion complicate sustainable access to drinking water. The proposed solution, the WaterSmart Network Optimization (WSNO) software, developed by MACS in partnership with SISAR Sobral, has been successfully tested in the community of Rafael Arruda, allowing for the optimization of the distribution network and improving pressure, flow, and energy efficiency, bringing direct benefits to the local community.
